This calendar is published by the Wyoming State Archives, Museums and Historical Department. ![]() The Calendar of Wyoming History-1981 featured photographs of Wyoming taken by Joseph E. Stimson. Born in Virginia in 1870 and having grown up in South Carolina and Nebraska, Stimson learned photography at 16 years old. He moved to Wyoming in 1889 and began work as a portrait photographer in Cheyenne. In 1894 Stimson photographed the Big Horn Mountains when he accompanied State Engineer Elwood Mead on a trip. In 1899 Stimson photographed the Tetons. He began a nearly 20 year working relationship with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1901 in which he photographed scenes along the railroad. The State of Wyoming commissioned Stimson to prepare an exhibit for the 1903 St. Louis Exposition, and he was awarded a silver medal. This calendar displays examples of Stimson's work. The earliest photograph showed the Cheyenne Football Team in 1901, and the most recent photograph was of Sunrise Miners about 1930. ![]() 1981 Calendar of Wyoming History - June ![]() 1981 Calendar of Wyoming History - August Newcastle about previous Wyoming Historical Calendars:
