About the Wyoming State Historical Society Seal

In 1964-65 the Society held a statewide competition for a design of an official seal. Entries were judged by the Executive Committee at the Annual meeting held in Rawlins, September 12 and 13, 1964.

The winning entry was submitted by Mr. Orman Pratt of Sheridan, Wyoming.

The design contains an Indian, a covered wagon, a book and quill pen. Mr Pratt explained the seal was so designed to depict the Indian and the pioneer past of the state. The book represents the written record of the past, and the quill pen and wagon represent the tools which were important to the progress of the west.

Mr Pratt was presented with a specifically worded certificate from the Wyoming State Historical Society in appreciation of his winning entry.
