Across Wyoming – Part 3
Evanston
– Green River
Friday, June 13 This year, as last year,
you will have to furnish your own transportation for the trek. We will
start in Evanston and end the trek in Green River Saturday. Please make your
motel/hotel arrangements accordingly.
The first stop is Evanston,
Wyoming. A block of rooms has been reserved
under Wyoming State Historical Society at the Best Western Dunmar Inn. The address is 1601 Harrison
Drive and the telephone number is (307) 789-3770. The conference
room rate is $89.95. Forty-room block has been reserved for WSHS. All the rooms are on the ground floor. Rooms must be booked by May 12. Other hotels and motels in Evanston include Days Inn, Holiday Inn
Express, Comfort Inn, Howard Johnson, and Motel 6. Best local motel is Prairie Inn, 264 Bear River Drive,
307/789-2920.
Registration for the Trek
will be at the Machine Shop in Evanston - 10 am to 5
pm.
2 - 4 pm - Guided
tour of Roundhouse Complex, downtown, Museum and Depot Square or
you may tours on your own. Maps of these self-guided tours will
accompany the registration packets.
6 - 8 pm - Dinner
at the Machine Shop and entertainment
Saturday, June
14
7-8 am -- Breakfast at the
Bear Pavilion
8:30 am -- Tour
begins. Possible sites to be visited include: Eagle Rock, Piedmont,
Muddy Crossing, scenic backway, oil springs, Oasis, Lincoln Highway
tunnel, Aspen and Altamont tunnels, Bryan cemetery, Church Buttes,
Nagy Station, Granger, location of original Little
America
Break or early
lunch at the Lyman barn; ice cream break at Little America,
possibly with a presentation on the history of Little
America
6-8 pm -- Dinner
at Expedition Island Pavilion; Jim Ehernberger
presentation.
The trek will end in Green River Staurady night. Room may be reserved at the one of the following locations:
