Guided Tour of The Double Dee Ranch hosted by Meeteetse Museum

Celebrate the National Day of the American Cowboy with an unforgettable mountain excursion! Join the Meeteetse Museums on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, for a historic tour of the legendary Double Dee Ranch, tucked away in the scenic Shoshone National Forest. This is your chance to explore the historic dude ranch visited by Amelia Earhart in 1934, dive deep into the area's rich history, and take in the stunning natural beauty of the Shoshone Forest.

We will organize a caravan that leaves from the main museum building promptly at 9:00 AM to reach the Double Dee around 10:00 to 10:30 AM. Please note that all participants must drive themselves to the ranch, though you are welcome to meet museum staff directly at the site if you already know the route. If you have extra space in your vehicle and are willing to help a neighbor out, please meet us at the museum between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM to coordinate carpooling!

Because the mountain road can get rough in places and includes a creek crossing, we highly recommend driving a high-clearance vehicle. Please remember to pack in plenty of water and plan to pack out any trash. Keep in mind that the nearest restrooms to the ranch are vault toilets at the Wood River and Brown Mountain Campgrounds.
